Total Knee Replacement

Knee Replacement: what is it?

Knee replacement surgery involves resurfacing your knee joint. There are three components involved in replacing a knee joint:

  • A metal component on your Femur or thighbone;
  • A metal component on your Tibia or shin bone; and
  • Plastic between the two to act as cartilage or shock absorption.

On a rare occasion the underside of your knee cap or patella is replaced with a plastic component. All these components move together to allow near to normal function in the knee.
